High-profile press coverage for data startup, Mastodon C, to highlight potential savings for the NHS

The brief

Mastodon C are a team of data scientists and engineers, creating innovative solutions around open data. Through open data sets, Mastodon C revealed potential savings of more than £200m per year for the NHS if doctors prescribed unbranded drugs.

Our response

We provided full communication support to the Mastodon C team. This included a journalist contact programme to ensure pickup of the story in high-profile national outlets.

As a startup in an emergent sector we worked with Allegory to generate excellent national media coverage for our business. This stimulated significant interest in our target market, generated orders and investment, and got us off on a path to growth

The outcome

Key outcomes included an exclusive feature placed in the print edition The Economist. We also secured national pick up of the story in the Independent, the Financial Times and on Radio 4. The study also lead to Sir Bruce Keogh, NHS Commissioning Board’s MD, to declare this a key issue.

Our work also contributed to significant interest in Mastodon C leading to new orders and investment.
