Positioning the Data City as a leading name in the UK’s AI landscape

The brief
The Data City (TDC), are a Leeds-based company that uses data and artificial intelligence to produce real-time analysis relating to the economy and innovation in the UK. TDC produced the world’s first tech census which ranked UK cities and regions according to their tech readiness. TDC approached as they were preparing for their first round of investor funding, and we were tasked with raising their profile within their sector, local area and to potential investors.
Our response
We worked with TDC to promote the tech census nationally and regionally. To do this, we engaged key local stakeholders, including Local Enterprise Partnerships, Federation of Small Business local chapters, and Chambers of Commerce to add weight to regional press releases, secure more media coverage and enhance reputation and credibility.
We also provided full press office and social media support to TDC, and we developed media stories on new products, awards shortlists and events announcements. In addition to this we provided copywriting and digital graphic design services – including Twitter cards (right) to support the team.

The outcome
Our work generated over 30 pieces of coverage in local and sector media with a reach of over one million. We generated over 100k impressions on social media which led to a 137% increase in The Data City’s Twitter following. Top mentions include a tweet from Andy Burnham about a new partnership with Manchester Inward Investment Agency. The media and stakeholder coverage contributed to an 800% increase in traffic to key web pages, driving significant interest and downloads of the Digital UK Tech Census.
Through our network of contacts in government and in the data and innovation space, we also connected The Data City to individuals at BEIS and the Office for AI, resulting in two new business leads in 2019.
